Released by Image Entertainment on LD, "This Gun For Hire" is a black and white 1942 Paramount film starring
Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake. The film was licensed to Image by MCA Home Video, as Universal Studios holds home video rights
to a collection of vintage Paramount titles. This 1987 disc issue was the first time this movie was released on LaserDisc
in the U.S. The title is full frame video with CX-encoded mono audio. The image is sharp and looks good, even
by contemporary standards.
Side Two is presented in CAV-Standard Play format and the film's theatrical trailer is included following
the movie presentation. This is among the earliest of LD releases to feature a "short side" CAV presentation.
The pressing reviewed was made for Image by Pioneer in the U.S.
"This Gun For Hire" was originally issued on MCA Home Video for videocassette release in 1983. Additional
releases on VHS may be found with MCA/Universal and Universal labels. The title was issued on DVD in 2004 by Universal.
